{"id":2873,"date":"2013-03-05T10:47:58","date_gmt":"2013-03-05T15:47:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tunstall-inc.com\/?p=2873"},"modified":"2015-03-23T12:23:37","modified_gmt":"2015-03-23T16:23:37","slug":"water-hammer-and-the-sound-it-makes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tunstall-inc.com\/water-hammer-and-the-sound-it-makes\/","title":{"rendered":"Water Hammer and the sound it makes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This video was recently taken at a project site and highlights the effects of water hammer.<\/p>\n<p>Water hammer occurs where there is condensate blocked in the system and it comes in contact with steam that is traveling within the pipes, radiators, convectors, etc. \u00a0The steam pushes the condensate along and when it encounters an obstacle or obstruction, such as a pipe elbow or valve, it comes to a abrupt stop. \u00a0Water hammer can be the result of improperly pitched piping, incorrect use of concentric reducers, failed steam traps, and systems absent of check valves and strainers.<\/p>\n<p>As you can hear from the video, the sounds can be severe and the consequences can have a devastating effect on the entire system.
